Okeanus Science & Technology, LLC (Okeanus), an international provider of specialised ocean equipment and marine engineering services, announces the addition of a newly designed and manufactured 20-Ton A-Frame and 125HP HPU to its lineup of specialised launch and recovery equipment. This turnkey A-Frame and HPU package is available both for preorder and as part of Okeanus’ expanding rental portfolio of subsea survey solutions. Designed and built at Okeanus’ engineering and manufacturing facility in Houston, TX, the new A-Frame system has been engineered to meet operator demand for increasingly robust but versatile deck handling equipment geared towards heavy-lift geotechnical and environmental survey work in challenging and often volatile offshore environments. Uncrewed vehicle deployments “In recent years, we have seen a steady call for launch and recovery systems engineered to safely and reliably handle bigger loads in deeper waters, so we are excited to bring the new 20-ton A-Frame package to market, both as a build-to-order offering and as part of our rental lineup,” said Benton LeBlanc, Chief Commercial Officer at Okeanus. Since being added to Okeanus’ rental pool, the A-Frame has been successfully mobilised on two projects Since being added to Okeanus’ rental pool, the A-Frame has been successfully mobilised on two projects: the first in support of a campaign of uncrewed vehicle deployments for a government client and the second with an international marine vessel provider through the end of summer 2024. Operational safety and reliability “Beyond operational safety and reliability, factors that underwrite every Okeanus product design, the offshore utility of the A-Frame package was a core consideration,” explained LeBlanc. “In testing, we quickly determined that the system was ideally suited for the launch and recovery of uncrewed assets, especially uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs), from a larger mothership thanks not only to the load tolerance but also the system’s large internal clearances. This is a feature that we know is of increased importance for operators across the ocean sector.” Okeanus’ rental option provides customers with a route to rapid mobilisation and the flexibility of incorporating this A-Frame package on a wide variety of vessels in virtually any operating region in the world.
Okeanus Science & Technology, LLC (Okeanus), an established provider of marine equipment and engineering services, recently revealed how some of the company’s deck-handling equipment proved instrumental to the discovery of the iconic US Revenue Cutter Bear. The shipwreck was located during a 2019 geophysical reconnaissance mission off Nova Scotia carried out by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG), and CSA Ocean Sciences (CSA). Okeanus’ DT Marine 200 Series The expedition was supported by an Okeanus DT-210EHLWR slip ring winch, from Okeanus’ DT Marine 200 Series, a model specifically designed for short-tow side scan systems, well-logging services, towed arrays, and deploying scientific instrumentation for oceanographic surveys. The 10-horsepower self-contained hydraulic winch was used to tow a Klein 3900 high-resolution dual-frequency sonar system via an armored coaxial tow cable, covering more than 62 square nautical miles of the seabed over the 14-day survey. Gathering evidence with underwater cameras We were thrilled to support NOAA, USCG, and CSA on this historic mission to pinpoint the USRC Bear" The data identified two key targets, one of which located approximately 260 miles due east of Boston and 90 miles south of Cape Sable, Nova Scotia was confirmed to be the USRC Bear in October after a team of marine archeologists returned to the site to gather conclusive evidence using an ROV equipped with high-resolution underwater cameras. "We were thrilled to support NOAA, USCG, and CSA on this historic mission to pinpoint the USRC Bear, and so the recent news that the site identified in the 2019 campaign is indeed the famous shipwreck is a source of much excitement among the team,” said Okeanus Chief Commercial Officer Benton LeBlanc. Easy to mobilise, operate winches “Okeanus winches are ideal for search and recovery efforts of this nature as they are easy to mobilise, can operate from any marine platform, and are reliable to perform as was the case with this campaign in particularly challenging at-sea conditions." Okeanus offers a comprehensive range of all-electric and electro-hydraulic multi-purpose winches suitable for vessels of any size and configuration, as well as a growing catalog of highly specialized winches, which includes spooling winches, underwater winches, mine countermeasure winches, umbilical winches, ASV mounted winches, and cold climate winches.
