MBARI – Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, a private non-profit oceanographic research centre based in Moss Landing, California is building a new research vessel at Freire Shipyard in Spain. The R/V David Packard will be a state-of-the-art vessel, 50 metres long and able to accommodate 12 crew and 18 scientists on MBARI’s missions to explore and understand a changing ocean.

The basic design of the R/V David Packard was developed by Glosten, with the detailed design developed by Freire Shipyard. The project includes very specific and high-end HVAC systems, including systems from Teknotherm and others to deliver several scientific cooling and freezing systems.
