Stanlow Terminals Cammell Laird is set to build two of these Dolphins for Stanlow Terminals and they will weigh 50 tonnes each. In 2022, Cammell Laird successfully fabricated a single mooring dolphin for the terminal – and was subsequently asked to undertake a design study to identify opportunities to reduce the fabrication time, weight, and costs of the existing dolphins. Tranmere mooring configuration They will provide stability for tankers during berthing, allowing them to move seamlessly These dolphins will form a vital component of the Tranmere mooring configuration and will float at 3 metres in height (2 metres below the water level) and 7.5 metres in width. They will provide stability for tankers during berthing, allowing them to move seamlessly with the ebb and flow of the tide. Best quality product Mike Hill, Managing Director of Cammell Laird, said, "We have developed a good relationship with Stanlow Terminals and we were delighted to have been awarded the contract to build two further dolphins." Stanlow Terminals Ltd has announced that they are to develop a major new open access import terminal for green ammonia in the Port of Liverpool. The new terminal, which will be an expansion of Stanlow Terminal’s existing facilities, will provide the connecting infrastructure to enable significant volumes of green ammonia to be imported into the United Kingdom (UK). New terminal The new terminal contributes to Essar’s ambition to be a major hub of low carbon energy innovation The new terminal contributes to Essar’s ambition to be a major hub of low carbon energy innovation and a leader in production globally. Green ammonia is a highly effective liquid carrier of hydrogen, which allows for the safe and cost-efficient transport of green hydrogen at scale. The new terminal will enable the import and storage of more than one million tonnes per year of green ammonia for onwards distribution into the UK or conversion back to green hydrogen for supply to the North West’s industrial customers. Green hydrogen produced used in varied industries The green hydrogen produced will be used by a wide range of industries in the region, including as a sustainable fuel for marine shipping and to help decarbonise energy usage and, in doing so, contribute significantly to the UK’s net zero ambitions. Green ammonia is a crucial component in the development of the global hydrogen economy and is expected to develop into one of the world’s major sustainable energy commodities. Once operational, the new terminal will put Stanlow Terminals at the heart of the global hydrogen energy market, with ready access to large scale international green ammonia imports. ` . The new terminal will be advantageously located within Stanlow Terminal’s existing facilities, where it will benefit from the Port of Liverpool’s unique combination of competitive geographical location, deep water access and maritime infrastructure which is capable of handling the largest gas carrier vessels. Terminal to offer direct connectivity with Hynet The terminal will also benefit from direct connectivity with Hynet, the UK’s major low carbon hydrogen project in terms of scale and speed to market. Feasibility studies are currently being undertaken, with the terminal currently scheduled to commence operations in 2027. Development of the green ammonia terminal The development of the green ammonia terminal is the latest phase in Stanlow Terminal’s long-term plan The development of the green ammonia terminal is the latest phase in Stanlow Terminal’s long-term plan to become the UK’s largest bulk liquid storage and energy infrastructure solutions provider. Peel Ports Group (PPG) has announced it is launching a new ship-to-ship (STS) fuel transfer service on the River Mersey in partnership with Stanlow Terminals Ltd. The STS Transfers will enable larger ships to transport products directly from Tranmere to a wide range of international destinations. The new service will significantly save time and lower costs, allowing the import and export of much larger cargos than previously possible. New ship-to-ship (STS) fuel transfer service Previously, larger cargos would be transhipped to and from larger vessels by smaller vessels based at European ports, such as Rotterdam, subsequently adding costs and time to the import and export process. The new Tranmere STS Service will remove these requirements, helping reduce delivery times. Tranmere Terminals has now successfully completed STS transfers, which took place this summer and involved three successful transfers. Overall the new STS Service has the capacity to transfer up to 160,000 tonnes of fuel each month.
