thyssenkrupp Marine Systems held the first Hydrogen Day at the shipyard in Kiel. The occasion was the topping-out ceremony for the hall in which fuel cell production will be located in the near future.

thyssenkrupp Marine Systems has invited various players from the world of hydrogen to the H2 Forum to get to know their visions, present the technologies and innovative projects together with the project partners, and discuss the opportunities of hydrogen in the industry.

Hydrogen economy centre

Dr. Alexander Orellano, COO, "As a technology company, we want to make our know-how in the field of hydrogen available to others or develop new application possibilities together with partners."

"Schleswig-Holstein is already a centre of the hydrogen economy. Let's make this even bigger together. We cordially invite you to do so.”

Importance of hydrogen

Nearly all innovations that are made in military shipbuilding will sooner or later also benefit civil shipbuilding"

The importance of hydrogen for Schleswig-Holstein was also emphasized by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Economics, Dr. Thilo Rolfs emphasised in his welcoming address, “Nearly all innovations that are made in military shipbuilding will sooner or later also benefit civil shipbuilding."

"That is why the continuous exchange is so important as it is today and that is why the big keywords of the future are rightly mentioned here today: innovation, hydrogen, sustainability, and energy transition. Hardly any other topic will occupy us so much in the next few years.

Automated cell production

Not only is a new shipbuilding hall being built on the construction site of the shipyard in Kiel, but also the future fuel cell production facility, which will combine “Engineering & Production” under one roof from the start of operations in 2023 and will be the most modern fuel cell technology and production facility in Europe.

A fully automated cell production for fuel cell modules, a test laboratory with high-precision measuring devices, and a clean room to ensure technical cleanliness within the module production are currently being built in the middle of Kiel.
