Sirius Insight, a renowned UK technology company focused on AI to enhance maritime surveillance and understanding, is pleased to have been highlighted as an exemplar of innovation in the emerging ocean technology sector by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (“APPG”) for the Ocean’s newly published report into the Future of Ocean Technology.

EU’s Horizon funding programme

In its submission to the APPG, Sirius Insight highlighted the importance of sensor and satellite technology in furthering ocean data monitoring and noted that additional Government funding would support UK tech SMEs in exporting their technology to new overseas markets.

For example, the company was prevented from contributing its expertise and technological capabilities to a European Research project into Maritime Surveillance because, at the time, the UK was not a part of the EU’s Horizon funding programme. The APPG report has concluded that ocean technology “must be properly harnessed, funded and regulated, to ensure research innovation”.

Procurement processes

UK government will go further still to boost competition in procurement methods on fair terms

As a pioneering UK company operating in this field, with a UK-based team and UK-generated intellectual property that stays securely in the UK, Sirius hopes that, additionally, the UK government will go further still to promote competition in procurement processes on fair and level terms, which has been an area of concern.

Malcolm Glaister, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sirius Insight, said: We are delighted that Sirius Insight has been highlighted by the Ocean APPG as a leading innovator in future ocean technology. This APPG’s kind words are a testimony to the exceptional work of the dedicated and growing team here at Sirius Insight, and serves only to fuel our passion to continue pushing the boundaries of maritime AI and transforming maritime surveillance globally."

World-class technology

Malcolm Glaister adds: "Since the submission of evidence to the inquiry, we are pleased to report that we continue to make good progress in bringing our cost-effective and world-class technology to new users overseas."

He continues, “We are particularly grateful to Ministers and officials in the Department for Business and Trade, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and the Home Office for their insights, guidance and encouragement, which has proven invaluable.”
